Hello, since Apr 19 2011 we have working support of hibernation also called sleep or suspend to disk. Although it may sound funny and weird for _livecd_, however - in fact I use this system recent 4 years as main workbench booted from SSD. And it is well known that eeepc 701 continues to consume power at full rate while suspended to ram, so only solution to have it sleeping is s-t-d. Well, i don't use 701 now, nevertheless. Another use cases... May be there are ones. Nevermind. Let it be. To activate this, one need to put following to kernel command line: resume=LABEL=SWAP (or how your swap partition labelled). Either UUID can be used instead of LABEL, but not tested. Also, you need to activate this swap partition with swapon. After this pm-hibernate will put your system to sleep on disk.
